MATERIALS: Crystal Palace Iceland, 4(5,5,6,6) balls.
Crystal Palace Bamboo Needles size 10 & 10-3/4 or 11, 35" circular needles size 10, or size to obtain correct gauge.
Cable needle.
GAUGE: 3 sts = 1" on larger needles in St st. To save time, take time to check gauge.
BACK: With smaller needles, cast on 54(58,62,66,71) sts and work in k1, p1 rib for 2." Change to larger needles and St st. Work even until piece measures
11-1/2 (12, 12-1/2, 13, 13-1/2)". At the beg of next 2 rows bind off 5(6,6,7,7) sts, then dec 1 st each side every other row 3(3,4,4,5) times. Work even until piece measures 21 (22,23,23-1/2,24-1/2)." Bind off.
FRONT: With smaller needles, cast on 56(60,64,68,72) sts and work in k1, p1 rib for 2." Change to larger needles and work cable pattern as follows:
Rows 1,3,5: k23(25,27,29,31), p2, k6, p2, k23(25,27,29,31).
Rows 2,4,6,8: p23(25,27,29,31) k2, p6, k2, p23(25,27,29,31).
Row 7: k23(25,27,29,31) p2, slip next 3 sts onto cable needle and hold in front, k next 3 sts, k 3 sts from cable needle, p2, k23(25,27,29,31).
Work even in cable pattern until piece measures 11-1/2(12,12-1/2,13,13-1/2)", ending ready for a right side row.
TO SHAPE ARMHOLES & NECK: At beg of next row bind off 5(6,6,7,7) sts, k18(19,21,22,24) sts, p2, k2 tog, k1, join second ball of yarn, k1, slip 1, k1, psso, p2, k to end. Working each side sep, cont to dec armholes as for back and at same time dec 1 st at each neck edge in the same manner as above (remember to work dec into cable pattern) 10(11,11,11,12) times. Work even until piece measures 21(22,23,23-1/2,24-1/2)." Bind off loosely.
FINISHING: Sew shoulders seams. Pick up approx 94(96,100,100,102) sts around armhole with circ needle and work a k1, p1 rib for 3/4". Sew side seams. Pick up
approx 106(108,112,112,114) sts around neck with circ needle and work a k1, p1 rib for 1." To miter bottom of V-neck, dec 1 st each side of the bottom center st of the V while knitting k1, p1 rib.
